Corporate Giving And Volunteerism

The Magna Donnelly is a company focused on people. And our people focus on the people––the communities––around them.

Just a few of the projects in which Magna Donnelly people play critical roles:

  • Employees join forces for Hurricane Katrina Relief

In what began as a grass-roots effort, Magna Donnelly employees emptied jars and pockets into boxes and jugs in honor of the company-wide hurricane Katrina relief drive.  The fund-raiser for the American Red Cross began when employees in several divisions asked their human resources departments what they could do to help the victims of hurricane Katrina.

Among the activities, one group of employees served their co-workers a lunch including tacos, rice, beans and chips with soft drink, accepting donations for the cause.  Over the course of two weeks, employees donated more than $11,000 , which was matched by the company to total $22,000.  In addition, Optera Michigan employees decided to skip their picnic, donating the $5,000 cost to the effort and bringing total funds raised to over $27,000.

  • Day of Caring kicks off United Way Drive

In September 2005 Magna Donnelly employees in West Michigan participated in the annual United Way Day of Caring.

Holland area employees volunteered at the Holland Rescue Mission Women’s Shelter. They painted door and window trims in the kitchen, and worked also worked in the Day Care Center, where they washed toys, scrubbed walls and organized cupboards.

Employees from Grand Haven worked at the home of an elderly Spring Lake resident who was in need of assistance with the upkeep of the outside of her home. Volunteers cleaned and painted shutters and outdoor furniture and washed windows.

  • FIRST Robotics Teams sponsored by Magna Donnelly

Engineers from Holland, Michigan, and Holly, Michigan, teamed up with local high school students to create two Magna Donnelly-sponsored FIRST Robotics teams.  Both teams did well in competitions across the U.S. and Canada, meeting face-to-face in Atlanta, Georgia, for the final competition in late April.
