Employees join forces for
Hurricane Katrina Relief
In what began as a grass-roots effort, Magna Donnelly employees
emptied jars and pockets into boxes and jugs in honor of the
company-wide hurricane Katrina relief drive. The fund-raiser for
the American Red Cross began when employees in several divisions
asked their human resources departments what they could do to help
the victims of hurricane Katrina.
Among the activities, one group of employees
served their co-workers a lunch
including tacos, rice, beans and chips with soft drink, accepting
donations for the cause. Over the course
of two weeks, employees donated more than $11,000 , which was
matched by the company to total $22,000. In addition, Optera
Michigan employees decided to skip their picnic, donating the $5,000
cost to the effort and bringing total funds raised to over $27,000.
